Biography
PROFESSOR FRANK B. WRIGHT
Professor Wrights’ career accomplishments include:
Professor Frank B. Wright, LLB (Leeds), LLM (Leicester), PhD (Leicester) FRIPH, FCIEH, FRSA is Professor of Law in the University of Salford. Professor Wright’s principal research and teaching interests lie in aspects of regulatory and protective law including occupational health and safety law, environmental law and public health law. After conducting research in the 1980’s at Leeds and Leicester, where he worked with Professor Charles D. Drake and Professor Alan C. Neal on the developing law of health and safety in the workplace and Professor David J. Hughes in environmental law at national, European and international level, he joined the staff of the University of Salford to work with Professor Valerie Karn. Shortly after joining Salford he founded the University’s HEFCE RAE 6* rated European Law Research Centre which he developed and led for fourteen years (1991-2005). Professor Wright has lectured throughout Europe in the fields of health and safety law, public health law and environmental law. He devised and ran the only postgraduate taught programmes on health and safety law and environmental law in the UK and last year launched two popular and distinctive postgraduate taught programmes in health care law. Professor Wright has also served as an examiner at postgraduate level at the University of East Anglia, the University of Leicester and the University of Aston. Professor Wright works actively in the fields of health and safety and environmental regulation and in relation to the implementation of EU regulation at Member State level, as well as providing advice to national governments and large multinational corporations. Over the last twenty-five years Professor Wright has worked on a large number of projects funded by the European Commission and the International Labour Organisation as well as by the British Health and Safety Executive on regulatory and enforcement matters. Professor Wright has served as a Member of the Editorial Board of Land Management and Environmental Law Report, Health and Safety at Work and as an adviser to Kluwer, Butterworths Tolley, Thomson Books and Sage Books. Professor Wright is a member of JUSTICE, the Human Rights Lawyers Association, the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law and the International Council of Environmental Law. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Public Health and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. In 1997 Professor Wright served as Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Royal Society for the Promotion of Health. He is currently Associate Dean (Research) in the Faculty of Business and Informatics at the University of Salford. |
